Budapest Study Tour, May 2009

CARE NWB project manager and coordinator together with 8 representatives of the 4 Roma Women NGO project partners from BiH, Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro visited in May 2009 the European Roma Rights Center (ERRC) in Budapest. The study tour enabled the local partners from the region to learn more about ERRC's activities on Roma rights protection in Hungary, but also their specific actions related to the project-target region, as well as to meet and exchange experience with other relevant foundations, organizations and institutions in Hungary. The biggest focus of the visit was on education funding opportunities, which turned out to be interesting and new for the partners. The campaign “I am a Roma women, I am a European Women, I am a Women”, created and produced in Hungary and broadcast in 17 countries of Europe was presented by its author and director. The campaign focuses on positive examples of educated and successful Roma women as encouragement to young Roma girls to enter and finish school and aim for higher education opportunities. A one-day introductory advocacy training was conducted by an ERRC expert with lot of experience in working with Roma organizations from the project region. The study tour was highly rated by the participants and some of the information gathered and knowledge gained was alredy applied by the partners in other project activities. Valuable contacts were made and future cooperation discussed.
